[Scene: Central Perk, Joey is talking to Ross]	[セントラルパーク。ジョーイがロスと話している。]
Joey: There's this woman, that I like. A lot. Well, it's complicated. She's with this other guy. For a long time. And I could never do that to the guy, y'know? 'Ccause we're really good friends.	ジョーイ：好きな女がいるんだ。ほんとに大好きなんだ…。でも複雑なんだよ。彼女には他の男がいるんだ。長い間付き合ってたんだ。俺とは親友なんだよ。だから…、そんなことできないんだ。
Ross: So, uh, this guy, she used to go out with, is, uh… is he a good guy?	ロス：で、その男、前付き合っていた男…、そいつはいいやつなのか？
Joey: Yeah, he's the best.	ジョーイ：あぁ。最高のやつだ。

Joey: It's Rachel.	ジョーイ：レイチェルなんだ。
[Fade to Black, then fade in again with Ross stopped at the doorway.]	[回想は終わり。その場面の続き。ロスはドアの前で止まっている。]
Ross: (closes the door) Did you um, I'm sorry, did you just say it's Rachel?	ロス：（ドアを閉める）　ジョーイ、ごめん、今…、レイチェルって言った？
Joey: Yes.	ジョーイ：あぁ。
Ross: Um, you…you like Rachel?	ロス：その…、君は…、レイチェルが好きなのか？
Joey: Yes. I like Rachel.	ジョーイ：あぁ。俺はレイチェルが好きだ。

Joey: Yeah, but it's not a big deal.	ジョーイ：あぁ。でもたいしたことないって。
Ross: It's not a big deal? Oh, I'm sorry I just…um, I…what about all the stuff you-you just said? I mean how about, I like, you-you can't stop thinking about her. Like how you can't sleep?	ロス：た、たいしたことないだって？　すみません、僕の聞き間違え？　何か今言ってなかった？　えーと、なんか、レイチェルのことが頭から離れないとか。眠れないとか？

Ross: Rachel who's carrying my baby? Rachel?	ロス：レイチェル？　僕の赤ちゃんを妊娠したレイチェル？
Joey: Look no, I-I know it's bad, and I know it's wrong. Okay? But-but it's not like anything's ever gonna happen. Y'know? These-these are just feelings, they're gonna go away.	ジョーイ：なぁ、悪いことだってわかってるよ。間違ってるってことも。でも、何も起こるわけじゃないしさ。な？　ただの感情だよ。すぐに消えるって。
Ross: Y'know what? I-I gotta go. (Starts to leave.)	ロス：あのさ、僕帰らなきゃ。　（帰りだす）
Joey: Oh come on Ross! Hey Ross-Ross don't…	ジョーイ：ロス！　まって！　ロス…
Ross: (stops) I just, y'know, I-I just have one, Rachel?!	ロス：（止まる）　その、一言…、レイチェル！？
(He exits and starts to walk away, passes a window, stops, and says "Rachel?!" again. Joey sighs and turns around to face Gunther.)	出て行き、歩き去ろうとするが、止まりまた"レイチェル！？"と言う。ジョーイはため息をつき、振り向くとガンターが目の前に立っている。
Gunther: Rachel?!!	ガンター：レイチェル！！？

Chandler: I think that's the youngest girl ever to reject me.	チャンドラー：へぇ、俺を拒絶した女の中じゃ、一番若い子だな。
Phoebe: (entering) Oh hey you guys!	フィービー：（入室）　おっす！

Chandler: Why?	チャンドラー：何で？

Phoebe: Oh, I'm so sorry. Um, and maybe I'm wrong! I but, y'know I'm gonna go out with him again, I'll find out more.	フィービー：あ、ごめんね。でも私が間違ってるかもよ。もう一回デートして、もっと探ってみるわ。
Chandler: You believe that this guy is destined for someone else and you're still gonna date him?	チャンドラー：他の人の運命の人だと思ってるのにデートするのか？

[Scene: Ross and Rachel's, Ross is opening the door to Monica.]	[ロスとレイチェルのアパート。ロスはドアを開けるとモニカがいる。]
Monica: Hey.	モニカ：おす。

Monica: I just talked to Joey, I just, I want to see how you were.	モニカ：ジョーイから話し聞いたわ。兄さん大丈夫？
Ross: Oh y'know, I still, I can't believe it. Joey and Rachel I mean it's… It's like you and me going out, only weirder!	ロス：ただ、いまだに信じられないよ。ジョーイとレイチェル？　そんなの…、お前と僕がデートするみたいなもんじゃないか！　めちゃめちゃ変だよ！
Monica: All right, I know you're hurting, and-and I want to be supportive, but don't say that again.	モニカ：兄さんが傷ついてるの分かるし、協力したいけど、二度とそれ言わないで。
Ross: Oh my God! What if, what if they get married? Then he'd be the stepfather of my child.	ロス：もしあの2人が結婚したらどうしよう！？　じゃあ、ジョーイが僕の子供の義理の父なのか？
Monica: Honey, I don't think that's something we need to worry about! First of all he's-he's never gonna tell her how he feels about her. And even if he did you have no idea how she'd react.	モニカ：そんな心配する必要ないわよ！　ジョーイは絶対にレイチェルに告白しないわよ。それにもししたとしても、レイチェルがどう反応するかなんて分からないじゃん。
Ross: Sure, because women never like Joey. Y'know, I think he's a virgin.	ロス：あぁ。ジョーイって全然もてないもんね。ジョーイって童貞だったっけ？
Monica: Joey…he's not even thinking about going after Rachel!	モニカ：ジョーイは…、レイチェルに告白することなんか考えてないわよ！
Ross: He's not?	ロス：そうなの？
Monica: No! All he's thinking about is how you're taking this! I mean, listen it's totally freaking him out. He's talking about moving to Vermont.	モニカ：うん！　ジョーイが心配してるのは兄さんのことよ！　ジョーイはほんとに心配してるのよ。バーモントに引越しするとか言ってるのよ。 Vermont　バーモント。ニューヨーク州の隣の州。
Ross: Why?	ロス：何で？
Monica: He says he wants to leave the country. (Pause) He thinks you hate him.	モニカ：アメリカを去りたいんだって。　（間）　兄さんに嫌われてると思ってるわよ。
Ross: Hate him? I… No, I don't hate him. (Pause) It's just it's Rachel, y'know?	ロス：嫌ってる？　僕は…、嫌ってなんかいないよ。　（間）　ただ…、レイチェルだから。わかるだろ？
Monica: Honey I can't even imagine how hard this must be for you. But, I don't want you to lose Joey over it. And right now he just needs to know that you're still his friend.	モニカ：兄さんにとってほんとに辛い状況だと思うけど。ジョーイを失ってほしくないわ。ジョーイにまだ友達だってことを言ってあげてよ。
Ross: Okay. Okay, I'll talk to him.	ロス：あぁ、分かったよ。ジョーイと会ってくるよ。
Monica: All right. Now do it soon, he just asked me how to convert his dollars into Vermont money.	モニカ：うん。すぐにね。ドルをバーモントマネーに変えればいいのかって聞いてきたから。
[Scene: Central Perk, Monica and Chandler are on the couch as Phoebe enters with Monica's soul mate.]	[セントラルパーク。モニカとチャンドラーがソファーに座っている。フィービーがモニカの運命の人と思われる人と入ってくる。]
Phoebe: Oh! Hi!	フィービー：あ、おっす！
Monica: Hi!	モニカ：おす！
Phoebe: Umm, Chandler, Monica, this is Don.	フィービー：あ、チャンドラー、モニカ、ドンよ。
Don: Oh, hello. (Shakes Chandler's hand.) Hello. (Shakes Monica's hand.)	ドン：あ、こんにちは。　（チャンドラーと握手）　どうも。　（モニカと握手）
Phoebe: (mouths to Chandler) Soul mate.	フィービー：（チャンドラーに口パク）　運命の人。

Phoebe: (cough talks) Soul mate.	フィービー：（咳払いみたいに話す）　運命の人。
Monica: So, what have you guys been doing?	モニカ：2人とも今日は何したの？
Don: Well, we just had a terrible lunch today at Reattica. What is with all the sun-dried tomatoes at that place?	ドン：あぁ、ラティカでのランチは最悪だったよ。あのレストランの干トマトは一体何なんだ？
Monica: I know! What is this, 1985?!	モニカ：そうよ！　何あれ？　1985年モノ！？
Don: That's exactly what I said. Phoebe, isn't that strange.	ドン：僕の台詞と同じだ。フィービー、これって変じゃない？
Phoebe: Not really.	フィービー：いや別に。
Chandler: What's wrong with sun-dried tomatoes? (Everyone stares at him.) On a barbecue chicken pizza? (Still there's staring.) No?	チャンドラー：干トマトのどこがまずいの？　（みんなチャンドラーをみる）　バーベキューチキンピザのやつだろ？　（みんな見ている）　違うの？
Monica: So Don, what-what other restaurants do you like?	モニカ：で、ドン。どのレストランが好き？
Don: Well, Octavio, 27&7. Oh! And there's this great little place, Alessandro's.	ドン：そうだねぇ、オクタビオ、27&7とかだな。あ、そうそう、いい場所があるんだよ。アレサンドロズって言うんだ。
Monica: Oh my God! That's my restaurant, I'm the chef there.	モニカ：ほんと！　私のレストランよ。私がシェフやってるの。
Don: You're kidding me!	ドン：ほんとに！
Monica: No!	モニカ：うん。
Don: Your food is fantastic! Wow, I really want to talk to you about your menu, once I get some coffees first. Um, anyone want any?	ドン：君の料理は素晴らしいよ！　うわぁ、ぜひ君のメニューの話を聞きたいよ。ちょっとまずコーヒー買わせてね。あ、誰かコーヒーいる？

(They go over to the counter and Chandler moves closer to Phoebe.)	2人はカウンターへと行き、チャンドラーはフィービーの方へと近寄る。
Chandler: What are you doing?!	チャンドラー：何してんだよ！？
Phoebe: Nothing! I swear to God I didn't know you guys would be here! And the good news is you didn't believe in soul mates. So…	フィービー：何もしてないわよ！　あなたたちがここにいるなんて知らなかったのよ！　あ、でもいいじゃん、あんた運命の人信じてないんでしょ。
Chandler: I believe in tall, handsome strangers who hit on my wife!	チャンドラー：背の高いハンサムなヤロウが俺の妻をナンパしてるんだぞ！
Phoebe: They're just talking, and y'know what? Just because I think they're soul mates doesn't mean anything's gonna happen.	フィービー：ただ話をしてるだけよ。別に運命の人だからって、2人が付き合うわけじゃないし。
Monica: (returning) Phoebe, good work.	モニカ：（戻ってくる）　フィービー、彼いいわぁ。
Phoebe: Yeah?	フィービー：そう？
Monica: Yeah! Oh he's great, I love him. (Walks away and Chandler glares at Phoebe.)	モニカ：そうよ！　彼、サイコーよ！　大好き。　（去っていき、チャンドラーがフィービーをにらむ）
Phoebe: Don't worry, we'll find you someone else.	フィービー：大丈夫よ。きっと他の人が見つかるわ。
[Scene: Joey's Apartment, there's a knock on the door and Joey answers it to Ross.]	[ジョーイのアパート。ノック音。ジョーイが開けるとロスが立っている。]
Joey: Hey.	ジョーイ：おす。
Ross: Hey.	ロス：おす。
Joey: Look, I understand if you came by to hit me, I deserve it.	ジョーイ：あぁ、分かってるよ。俺を殴りに来たんだろ。当然だよな。
Ross: No, I don't want to hit you.	ロス：違うよ。お前を殴りたくない。
Joey: Oh what then? Kick me?	ジョーイ：じゃあ何だ？　けるの？
Ross: No.	ロス：違うよ。
Joey: (getting worried) Bite me?	ジョーイ：（心配）　噛み付くの？
Ross: No, no I don't want to do anything to you. All right? I just want to tell you that I'm not mad at you and…and that I certainly do not hate you. I just, I just came here to say that. (Starts to leave.)	ロス：違う、違う。別に何もしないよ。ただ、僕はお前のことを怒ってないそれに…、もちろん嫌ってもいない。ただ…、ただそれを言いに来ただけだ。　（帰ろうとする）
Joey: Oh now. Hey Ross-Ross! Do you wanna-wanna come in for a beer or something?	ジョーイ：ねぇ、ロス！　ビールでも飲んでかない？
Ross: Uh…yeah sure. (Enters.)	ロス：あぁ…、そうだな。　（入る）
Joey: Do uh, do you got any beer? All-all I got is this melon stuff that Rachel left. I don't…	ジョーイ：えー…、ビール持ってる？　今はレイチェルがおいてったメロンのやつしかないんだ。その…
Ross: Okay.	ロス：あぁ、それでいいいよ。
Joey: (pouring two glasses) Hey look Ross, you need to understand something okay? I uh…I am never gonna act on this Rachel thing, okay? I-I would never do anything to jeopardize my friendship with you. (He hands Ross a glass.)	ジョーイ：（2つのグラスに注ぐ）　なぁ、ロス。これだけは分かってくれ。俺は…、レイチェルに何も言うつもりはないんだ。お前との友情を壊すことは絶対にしたくないからな。　（ロスにグラスを渡す。）
Ross: Thank you.	ロス：ありがと。
(They clink glasses and take a drink. Ross likes it, Joey hates it. Then Ross sees Joey hating it, mimics he hates it as well.)	2人は乾杯して飲み始める。ロスは気に入ったようだが、ジョーイはまずそうな顔をする。ロスはジョーイがまずそうにしてるのを見て、まずいと思ってるふりをする。
Joey: Anyway, it uh…look it'll just…take me a while to get over her, that's all. I'm not even sure how to do that, I mean I've never been in love before so…	ジョーイ：まぁ、とにかく…、ただ…、ちょっと立ち直るまで時間がかかるよ。ただそれだけだ。どうやって立ち直るのか分からないけどな…、誰にも真剣に恋をしたことないからな…
Ross: What?! You're in love with her.	ロス：え？！　お前真剣に恋したのか？
Joey: Yeah, I thought you knew that.	ジョーイ：あぁ。知ってると思ってたんだが。
Ross: Umm, no.	ロス：いや。
Joey: Wow. Hey look, if it helps, I don't want to feel this way. Honest. I just keep thinking, "Ah, I'll get over this." Y'know? I just, It just keeps gettin' harder. I don't, I don't know what to do. Y'know? What do I do?	ジョーイ：なぁ、分かってくれよ。俺はこんな気持ちになりたくないんだ。ほんとだよ。ずっと思ってるんだよ、"こんなもんすぐに消えちまうさって"な。でも…、逆に辛くなるだけなんだよ。俺は…、どうしたらいいかわからないんだよ。どうしたらいいんだ…

Ross: I think you need to tell her how you feel.	ロス：レイチェルに気持ちを伝えるべきだと思うよ。
Joey: Okay that's the green stuff talkin'.	ジョーイ：は、緑の酒飲んで酔っ払っちゃったか。
Ross: No, I'm serious. You-you need to find out where she is, because if she's not where you are, then you can start to move past this.	ロス：違うよ。僕は本気だよ。レイチェルの気持ちを知るべきだ。レイチェルがお前に気がないって分かったら立ち直れるだろ？
Joey: But what if uh...and I'm not saying she will be...But…	ジョーイ：でももし…　別に俺に気があるって言ってるわけじゃないけど…　もし…
Ross: If she is where you are then uh…then my feeling weird about it shouldn't stand in the way.	ロス：もしレイチェルもお前に気があるんなら…、僕の気持ちが君たちを止める理由なんかないよ。
Joey: Are you sure?	ジョーイ：本気で言ってるのか？
Ross: Yeah. Look if-if she's gonna end up with somebody else, the truth is she couldn't find a better guy. So…	ロス：あぁ。誰か他のやつと付き合うんだったら、お前よりいいやつはいないからな…
Joey: Hey thanks.	ジョーイ：ありがと。
Ross: So when do you think you're gonna talk to her?	ロス：で、いつ告白するんだ？
Joey: Oh my God I have to tell her! I haven't even thought about what I will say. What should I say?	ジョーイ：そうか、告白しなきゃいけないんだ！　何言うかすら考えてなかったよ。何て言えばいいんだろう？
Ross: I'm understanding, but let's not get carried away.	ロス：僕は理解を示すけど、浮かれるなよ。
Joey: I'm sorry, you're right. What am I gonna say? (He takes another sip of the green stuff and recoils at the taste.) Oh!	ジョーイ：ごめん、そうだな。何て言おう…　（飲み物を飲むがまずくてはきそうになる）　うえぇ！
Ross: Yeah, tell me about it. (He stands up, turns his back to Joey, and enjoys another sip.)	ロス：あぁ、こりゃきついよな。　（立ち上がり、ジョーイに背を向けて、美味しそうに飲む）

[Scene: Central Perk, Phoebe and Chandler are watching Monica and Don talk.]	[セントラルパーク。フィービーとチャンドラーがモニカとダンが話しているのを見ている。]
Don: …so I've been slowly phasing out the wine importing and focusing more on the cheese side of things.	ダン：で、最近はワインの輸入はちょっと控えめにしつつ、チーズのほうに重点を置いてるんだ。
Chandler: Cheese you say? That's some pretty smelly work, huh Don?	チャンドラー：チーズって言った？　へぇ、そりゃくさい仕事だよなぁ、ダン？
Don: Excuse me?	ダン：すいません、何か？
Chandler: Cheese, it's smelly. You must smell a lot of the time too.	チャンドラー：チーズ、そりゃくさいよ。君もいつもくさいんだろうね。
Don: Uh, not really. But when it comes to cheese, I'm one of the people who thinks the smellier the better.	ダン：あ、そんなことないですよ。あ、でもチーズといえば、僕はチーズはにおえばにおうほど美味しいと思うんだよね。
Monica: Me too! Yeah, Chandler can't stand it. He won't even allow me to have blue cheese in the house.	モニカ：私も！　チャンドラーはチーズのにおいに絶えられないのよ。ブルーチーズを家に置かせてくれないのよ。
Don: And you're still married to him? (They both laugh, and Chandler tries to but fails.)	ダン：それなのにまだ結婚してるのか？　（2人は笑う。チャンドラーは笑おうとするが、笑えない。）
Monica: You know what I'd love to do? I would like to go to France and eat nothing but bread and cheese. Not even bread, just cheese. No, I want the bread. Yeah. Ah, and pastries… (Breathlessly) And pate. Don: Well if you where ever enter the Loire valley let me know, I've got a great little villa you can stay at.	ダン：ロワール渓谷に行くんなら僕に教えてね。あそこにはすごいいい屋敷持ってるんだよ。君が泊まると楽しいと思うよ。
Chandler: Is it made of cheese?	チャンドラー：へぇ、チーズ製なのかい？
Don: No. But God, a house made of cheese, wouldn't that be incredible?!	ダン：違うよ。あ、でもチーズ製の家なんてよさそうだと思わない！？
Monica: I'd move in tomorrow!	モニカ：もう明日からでも住みたいわ！
Chandler: (disgusted) Oh come on! (To Phoebe) Are you listening to this?	チャンドラー：（怒り）　ちくしょう！　（フィービーに）　君は聞いてたか？
Phoebe: I'm so sorry.	フィービー：ごめんね。
Chandler: What do we do?	チャンドラー：どうすりゃいいんだよ？
Phoebe: I don't know, they both want to live in a house of cheese! I don't know how you fight that.	フィービー：知らないわよ。2人ともチーズの家に住みたいって言ってるのよ。どう対抗すりゃいいのよ？
[Scene: Outside Ross and Rachel's, Joey walks up to knock on the door, but stops.]	[ロスとレイチェルのアパートの外。ジョーイは廊下を歩いていき、ノックしようとするが、踏みとどまる。]
Joey: Okay. Okay, I can do this. I can tell her how I feel. Just uh, just stand up straight. (Does so.) Take a couple deep breaths. (Does so.) Look confident. (Does so as Rachel opens the door and startles him.)	ジョーイ：よし、よーし、俺は大丈夫だ。俺の気持ちを伝えるんだ。直立、まずはまっすぐ立て。　（まっすぐ立つ）　深呼吸だ。　（深呼吸）　俺は大丈夫だ。　（レイチェルがいきなりドアを開け、ジョーイはびっくり）
Rachel: Joey? What's up?	レイチェル：あ、ジョーイ。どうしたの？
Joey: I uh, I just came by because I-I want to talk to you about something.	ジョーイ：いや、俺はただ…、君に話があるんだ。
Rachel: Okay what's up?	レイチェル：うん。どうしたの？
Joey: Here? In the hall? What are we animals?	ジョーイ：ここで？　廊下だぞ？　俺たち動物か？
Rachel: Well honey, I'm late for a meeting. So can you just make it quick?	レイチェル：でも、ミーティングに遅れちゃう。手短にしてくれる？
Joey: Okay umm, I just came by to tell you that I…want to have dinner with you tonight. That's all.	ジョーイ：あぁ。俺が来たのは…、今日一緒にディナーしない？　それだけ。
Rachel: Sure! That sounds great! Just leave me a message and tell me where to meet you. Okay? (Walks away.)	レイチェル：うん！　いいわよ！　じゃ、待ち合わせ場所は後で教えてね。じゃあね。　（去っていく）
Joey: Okay. That's good. Okay, that give you a couple hours to prepare what you're gonna say. Good. Yeah. (Someone comes out of his apartment and it startles Joey again.) Don't you people ever knock?!	ジョーイ：あぁ。これでいいんだ。これで何を言うか考える時間が出来たぞ。あぁ、これでいいんだ。　（レイチェルのアパートの向かいの人がいきなりドアを開け、ジョーイはびっくり）　ノックしろってんだよ！
[Scene: Monica and Chandler's, Monica and Chandler are entering.]	[モニカとチャンドラーのアパート。モニカとチャンドラーが入ってくる。]
Monica: I'd like to have Don and Phoebe over. Wouldn't that be nice?	モニカ：今度ダンとフィービーを呼ぶんだ。いいと思わない？
Chandler: Sure, why don't you set it up. I'll just be over here, browsing through the personals.	チャンドラー：あぁ。勝手にすれば？　俺はここにいて広告でも見てるから。
Monica: Are you okay? You've been acting weird all afternoon.	モニカ：大丈夫？　今日の午後ずっと変よ。
Chandler: Yeah, fine. Fine. Not perfect!! But good enough.	チャンドラー：あぁ。大丈夫だ。完璧じゃないけどな！！　大丈夫だ。
Monica: Jeez! What is with you?	モニカ：ジーズ（変なの）！　どうしたのよ？
Chandler: I'm sorry, did you say cheese?	チャンドラー：すいません、チーズって言いました？
Monica: All right, what's going on?	モニカ：どうしたのよ？
Chandler: Phoebe thinks you and Don are soul mates, and I don't believe in that kind of stuff. But then you two totally get along. So look, I won't stand in your way if you want to run off with Don and live in a house of cheese.	チャンドラー：フィービーが君とダンは運命の人だって言うんだよ。俺はそんなもん信じないが、2人ともめちゃめちゃ仲いいじゃないか。ダンとチーズの家で駆け落ちしたしたいんなら、勝手にしな。
Monica: Chandler, you don't believe in soul mates?	モニカ：チャンドラー、運命の人って信じないの？
Chandler: No. But I'm sure (mimics Don) ‘tomatoes' does.	チャンドラー：信じないよ。でも　（ダンの真似）　トマトは信じるだろな！
Monica: I don't believe in soul mates either.	モニカ：私も運命の人は信じないわ。
Chandler: You don't?	チャンドラー：信じないの？
Monica: No. I don't think that you and I were destined to end up together. I think that we fell in love and work hard at our relationship. Some days we work really hard.	モニカ：うん。私たちは結びつく運命だったとは思わないわ。私たちは恋に落ちて、頑張って関係を進展させてきたのよ。ほんとに頑張った日もあったじゃない。
Chandler: So you…you don't want to live with Don in a cheese house?	チャンドラー：じゃぁ…、ダンとチーズの家に住みたくないのか？
Monica: No, I've had second thoughts about that. Do you realize how hard that would be to clean?	モニカ：住みたくないわ。ちょっと考えてみたけど、掃除が大変そうじゃん。
Chandler: I love you.	チャンドラー：愛してるよ。
Monica: I know.	モニカ：うん、分かってる。
Chandler: Y'know what? I am going to take you out to dinner tonight. I found this place that makes the greatest mozzarella sticks and jalapeno peppers . (Monica doesn't look impressed.) No? Really? They taste so good.	チャンドラー：そうだな、今日のディナーは俺のおごりね。モツァレラスティックとハラペニョが最高なんだぜ。　（モニカはあまり感動しない）　え？　まじで？　うまいんだぞ。 mozzarella　モツァレラ。チーズの一種。 jalapeno pepper　ハラペニョ。メキシコの唐辛子。
[Scene: A restaurant, Joey and Rachel are having dinner.]	[レストラン。ジョーイとレイチェルがディナーをしている。]
Rachel: …and I know Chandler is kidding but it happens every time he touches my stomach. I mean I'm really worried the baby's not going to like him. (Joey is staring at the table.) Are you okay?	レイチェル：チャンドラーが冗談で言ってるのはわかるけどさ、あいつがおなか触るたびにいつもなのよ。赤ちゃんがチャンドラー嫌いなのかなって心配だわ。　（ジョーイはテーブルを見てる）　大丈夫？
Joey: What? Yeah! Sure! Uh, look at the uh, the reason…(Exhales slowly) Is it hot in here?	ジョーイ：え？　あ、あぁ！　その、俺が呼んだ理由は…　（ゆっくり息をする）　暑くないか、ここ？
Rachel: No. Not-not for me, but why don't you take off your sweater?	レイチェル：私にはちょうどいいわよ。でもセーター脱いだら？
Joey: I would, but this is a nice place and my T-shirt has a picture of Calvin doing Hobbs.	ジョーイ：あぁ、でもここはいいとこだからさ、俺のTシャツ、カルビンとホブスなんだよ。 Calvin, Hobbs　キャラクターの名前。
Rachel: Oh my God! Really?! Can I see it?	レイチェル：ほんとー！？　見せて。
Joey: Yeah. Sure. (They both half stand up, Joey pulls the neck of his sweater out, and Rachel looks down it to see his T-shirt.)	ジョーイ：あぁ。　（2人は中腰になり、ジョーイはセーターの首の部分を引っ張って、レイチェルに見せる。）
Rachel: Huh. Wow, I wouldn't think Hobbs would like that so much.	レイチェル：へぇ、ホブスってそんなんだとは思わなかったわ。
Joey: Uh… How long have we known each other?	ジョーイ：あぁ…、俺たち知り合って何年になる？
Rachel: Um, seven…e-e-eight, eight years. Wow.	レイチェル：えーと、7…、8…、8年ね。長いわね。
Joey: Uh-huh, long time.	ジョーイ：あぁ、長いね。
Rachel: Yeah.	レイチェル：うん。
Joey: But over the past few weeks…	ジョーイ：でも、ここ数週間さ…
(A waiter runs over interrupting Joey.)	ウェイターがやってきてジョーイの邪魔をする。
Waiter: Hah, sorry about the wait, but it is mega-jammed in here! We have a couple specials tonight…	ウェイター：はー、お待たせしてすいませんねぇ。もう今日は大混雑ですよ！　今夜のスペシャルは2種類ありまして…
Joey: Actually uh, could you give us a second?	ジョーイ：あの、ちょっと待ってくれない？
Waiter: Sure. Sure. (Turns away, then turns back) Second's up! (Joey glares at him.) Not…that kind of table. (He walks away.)	ウェイター：あ、はい、もちろんです。　（ウェイターは去ろうとするが）　ちょっと経ちました！　（ジョーイはウェイターをにらむ）　あ…、そういう雰囲気じゃないんですね。　（去る）
Rachel: So you were saying?	レイチェル：で、何の話だっけ？
Joey: I'm not quite sure.	ジョーイ：どこまで話したっけ？
Rachel: Okay, well you had asked me how long we had known each other, and I said, "Eight years." And the um, waiter came over and cut his tip in half, and umm…now here we are.	レイチェル：えーとね、私たちが知り合ってから何年になるって聞いて、私が"8年"って答えた。そしたらウェイターがやってきて、チップが半額になった。それで…、そこまでね。
Joey: Yeah, here we are. Uhh… I… I think I'm…falling in love with you.	ジョーイ：あぁ。そうだったな。その…、俺は…、俺は…、君に…恋してしまったみたいだ。
Rachel: (stunned) What?	レイチェル：（びっくりして無反応）　は？
Joey: I'm falling in love with you.	ジョーイ：俺は君に恋をしてる。
Rachel: (looking around) Who are you talking too? Oh, you're kidding! Oh, it's a joke! (Laughs.) It's funny. It's funny. I don't get it. (Joey doesn't say any thing and Rachel realizes it's not a joke.) Oh. (Pause) Okay. Umm… I-I…uh, wow. Are you uh… How did umm… When?	レイチェル：（周りを見回す）　誰に話してんの？　え、冗談でしょ！　あ、ジョークね！　（笑う）　面白いわ。面白いわ。よくわからないけど。　（ジョーイは何も言わない。レイチェルはジョークじゃないと気づく。）　あら。　（間）　そうか…、私…、その…、あなたは…、どうして…、いつから？
Joey: Does it really matter?	ジョーイ：そんなの重要かい？
Rachel: Wow! Wow. Wow. Wow, it is hot in here.	レイチェル：あら…、ここ暑いわね。
Joey: Okay look Rach, I know this is a lot. You don't have to say anything. You-you uh, you take as much time as you need. (Long pause as Rachel says nothing.) Okay, you gotta say something!	ジョーイ：レイチェル、いろいろと考えることあると思う。すぐに言わなくてもいいよ。好きなだけ時間をとってくれ。　（長い間。レイチェルは何もいえない。）　そろそろ何か言ってよ！
Rachel: Joey, Joey I love you so much, but I…	レイチェル：ジョーイ、ジョーイ…。私もあなたのことほんとに好きよ…。でも…
Joey: But. (Hangs his head down.)	ジョーイ：でも…か。　（首を下にもたげる）
Rachel: Joey.	レイチェル：ジョーイ。
Joey: Yeah-yeah right. That's okay. That's fine. That's uh, pretty much what I was expecting. So uh, it's no big deal. All right? I think I'm gonna go. (Stands up.)	ジョーイ：あぁ、分かってる。大丈夫だ。俺も…、そう言うと思ってたから。だから…、たいしたことないよ。心配するな。じゃあ、俺は行くよ。　（立ち上がる）
Rachel: No! Joey please! Please don't! Please don't leave like this! Now come on, you cannot do this to a pregnant woman! (Starts to cry.)	レイチェル：だめ！　ジョーイ、行かないで！　お願い！　こんな終わり方はいや！　妊婦を置いてかないで！　（泣き出す）
Joey: Don't start doing that. You can't do that Rach, ‘cause then you're gonna make me do that. (Starts to cry.) Oh, here we go! (Sits down next to her.)	ジョーイ：だめだよ。そんなこと…、だって君は俺を…　（泣き出す）　わかったよぉ！　（レイチェルの横に座る）
Rachel: Can I? (Hug him.)	レイチェル：いい？　（ジョーイをハグすること）
Joey: Sure!	ジョーイ：あぁ！
(They hug.)	2人はハグ
Rachel: Oh Joey honey I don't…I don't want to lose…	レイチェル：ジョーイ…。私…、あなたを失いたくない…
Joey: Hey-hey-hey, hey! You can't. Okay? Ever!	ジョーイ：おいおい、それはない。大丈夫だ。俺は君から離れないよ！
Rachel: I'm so sorry.	レイチェル：ほんとにごめんなさい。
Joey: Oh no-no Rach, please, don't be sorry. Okay? Don't be sorry. (They hug again.) Y'know I was only kidding you.	ジョーイ：レイチェル、君が謝る必要なんかないんだ。そんな必要はないんだ。　（2人はハグする）　俺は冗談だったんだぞ。
Rachel: Yeah, that was a real good one.	レイチェル：うん。ほんと受けたわ。

[Scene: A restaurant, Joey and Rachel are still hugging as a waiter walks by the table to talk to the annoying waiter from before who is watching.]	[レストラン。レストラン、ジョーイとレイチェルはまだハグしている。ウェイターがテーブルの横を通り、さっきのウェイターと話し出す。]
Waiter No. 2: Is this your table?	ウェイター2：お前の担当？
Waiter: Yeah.	ウェイター：あぁ。
Waiter No. 2: God, you're gonna be here all night!	ウェイター2：そりゃ大変だな。お前残業だよ！
Waiter: I know! I haven't even read them the specials yet!	ウェイター：あぁ！　まだスペシャルも聞いてないんだぞ！
Waiter No. 2: What's the matter with them?	ウェイター2：どうしたんだ？
Waiter: I don't know. I think maybe one of them is dying. (Pause) I kinda hope it's the girl. (The other waiter is shocked.) The guy is really cute!	ウェイター：分からない。きっとどっちかが死んでるんだよ。　（間）　女の方だといいな。　（ウェイター2はショック）　だって、男の方ほんとにかわいいんだぞ！
